Who we are.

Long time colleagues Haydn and Nathaniel have worked together across multiple formats – concerts, tours, activations and festivals. Already well-established as freelancers and recognised as “the ones you want to work with”, in 2015 they made a move to solidify their position with the formation of a new company – Architects of Entertainment.

Aptly enough, AoE was born on the road. It was on the all-too-familiar Pacific Highway between Sydney and Byron – en route to another Splendour in the Grass – the words “Architects of Entertainment” were first uttered.

As soon as Nathaniel and Haydn returned from Splendour they took residence in a small room above a pub in Glebe and began working on their new venture. Now, two years later, Architects of Entertainment is recognised nationally as a new force in event production. Their experience and the drive to push boundaries and create unique experiences has quickly garnered the pair an ever-expanding client base and a pool of talent clambering to offer their services.

“All of our endeavors are quality-controlled from the start. The same people who conceive the idea of how an event should look and feel are the same people who build it; they’re the same people who see it through to the end and are the same people left standing when there is nothing remaining but an empty green field, left just as they found it.”

Haydn Johnston

Having been ushered into the live touring circuit by some of the country’s industry heavyweights, Haydn’s first experiences on the Big Day Out in its early years soon saw him turn his focus to events and festivals, working more and more in the outdoors space.

After stints in the US and 10 years’ experience as an Artists Tour Manager, Haydn’s Australian return has seen his focus move solely to the outdoors. With experience in Brand Activation, Production Event and Site, his strengths are amplified working side-by-side with a creative to bring the dreams alive.

Nathaniel Holmes

It was in 1996 that Nathaniel first worked on a festival site. He was 14. At 17 he started touring with the Big Day Out, where he really began to cut his teeth on the touring festival circuit.

Nathaniel understands every platform of producing a live environment, knowledge that can only be learned and honed by immersing yourself in the job. He is driven by a strong need to be original and push creative boundaries, which is exemplified in everything he does.

To Architects of Entertainment he brings 20 years of experience and knowledge. To his clients he brings an unwavering desire to make every show incredible.
